Joomla! Templates have three essential files, each of which have a specific role in creating the overall web site theme.

The template is NOT a complete website, but the files in the template contain information which control the location of sections of a webpage, where they appear in the browser window, it their position in the webpage, and how they appear.

These files are:

index.php

style.css

templateDetails.xml

In almost all Joomla! templates, there are further files, for example supplementary CSS stylesheet files, and possibly logo image files.

If you wish to contribute to the design and coding the presentation of your website, an understanding of the files making up Joomla! templates, and their contribution to the overall website presentation is important.

In the following articles we will create a simple site design, and the Joomal! template which will implement this design.

Have You Ever heard of YouTube?

What about Internet Marketing Television, or IMTV?

YouTube is popular because it provides the Big “E”…Entertainment.

Since YouTubeis so popular,it has made Google Video popular, too.

And when internet marketers find out that they can reach millions of people through a new medium, they jump all over it. I don’t know exactly when Internet Marketing Television was born, but it’s basically just videos that people watch to learn stuff about Internet Marketing. If YouTube had a section for Internet Marketing Only, that’s what Internet Marketing Television would be.

Should you pay for Internet Marketing Television? NO.

Seriously how much can you learn form watching a video. Watch somebody create a lead capture page on Internet Marketing Television still doesn’t get the page created. You still need to do some things yourself, actually, everything has to be done yourself.

Do a search for Free Videos on the Internet and you will eventually find what you are looking for.

There are 2 very important things you need to remember about the Internet, and Internet Marketing.

1-People use the Internet to fulfil a need. If you need information, do a search for it on the Internet. When you find the information you were looking for, your needs have been fulfilled.

2-Just about everything you need to know about Internet Markeitng is available for free, somewhere, but the issue is that people don’t trust the source sof information they come across. However, when it comes to NEEDING Internet Marketing Videos, your needs ar epretty spefic, and targeted.

Therefore, what you are looking for can be easily obtained for FREE without paying a monthly fee for something like Internet Marketing Television. It is a constant source of amazement to me that people find themsleves wasting a lot of money trying to make money online.

Everything you need to know is available for free somewhere, you just have to find it.

To find FREE How-to videos, just do a search for it on the search engines. There is one place that I just came across that is offering to help people find these how-to videos while allowing the people who made the videos to build their list virally.

The site I came across is a review site for Internet Marketing programs an dproducts, but the owner just added a section for Free articles and how-to videos.

Unfortunately, the owner has started rebuilding the site to allow for the videos to be added to the site.

I recommend you bookmark this site and check back from time to time as videos get added.

The site is called Firsthand Reviews and the link is http://firsthandreviews.com

Never pay for Internet Marketing Television when you can fulfill your video needs for free.

Tired of failing at making money online? Get this Free email course and report
http:///firsthandreviews.com/topten

Yahoo Answers For Best Internet Security

Question What is the best internet security software?
I currently use kaspersky internet security 2010, however, I am thinking of switching when my license expires.

I am wondering what is the best current internet security software.

Some people say MSE/avast/windows firewall, but the reports I have seen say they are mediocre and ok for free but the commercial can be better.

It must have a 3 user license at least, preferably 5.

The Best Answer I use Avast , I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly.
You will have to find the appropriate links as i am now getting violations each time I post a link. Seems like I have a troll.

Question What is the best internet security suite for windows 7?
I am aware that “best” is an ambiguous term and it is subject to self opinion.

However, in terms of speed, performance and most importantly safely and security of personal data, which internet security suite is “best”?

The Best Answer I just transferred my Trend Micro Internet Security Pro when I upgraded to Windows 7.

I have been using it for over ten years when it first appeared as PC-cillin. You don’t need any other program because it does it all.

In that time my computer has never been invaded by anything, even when the Internet was running rife with crap about three years ago.

It does viruses, Trojans, Adware, Malware, Spyware and any other ware, emails and webmail in and out, phishing, parental controls, site content, proxy and dodgy sites alerts, real time protection, comes with it’s own firewall and protects personal information against infiltration. Stops Pop Ups. Automatically updates every three hours. Does not affect the running or speed of your computer.

What it boils down to is, if you want the best you have got to be prepared to pay for it!

Works out at about 11p a day!

http://uk.trendmicro.com/uk/home/

Question What is the best internet security solution?
Which internet security solution out there do you think is the best? Please no biased opinions because you use it yourself. I currently have AVG but I am not happy with it.

I have looked at most of the security solutions’ internet sites but each one boasts incredibly and make its rivals sound dumb. Thank you

The Best Answer I started with norton and stayed with it for around 2years.After that i tried AVG n found it better than norton. One day i came across a review and tried kaspersky and found it the best. And also tried Eset Nod which is very good but clumsy, avira bad,Antivir at par.But Bitdefender rocks just like Kaspersky.Easy, fast, light n knows what to do.So,u can choose between Kaspersky n Bitdefender. For me from now onwards always Bitdefender. http://www.bitdefender.com/

Question What is the best Internet Security suite?
I presently use Eset smart Security 4 , but its gonna expire soon. What do you think about Norton Internet Security 2010,Bitdefender internet security 2010, AVG internet security 9 and Trend micro internet security 2010.Which of these suites have the best detection and removal rates, and light are light on system resources? I thinking about trying AVG internet security 9 is this good?

The Best Answer out of the ones you listed…noton is the best out of them….I like Kaspersky myself its a great program..I just got a magazine that did an article on Anti virus etc and here is the list in order
1. Gdata
2. Norton
3. Kaspersky
4 Bit Defender
5. Panda

I tried Gdata and I dont like it ….it make the web pages with java load slow or not at all….if I could figure out how to fix it I would like it better then my Kaspersky cause Gdata did find 25 viruses that Kaspersky missed….plus its a lot faster…I have a 500gb and a 1tb and it took it less then 30 min to go through the 500gb….Kaspersky would take 10 hours or longer maybe there is a setting in Gdata I can change but I havent played with it enough….they also said Norton is the best for the non tech savvy person….its kinda more hands off so if your not a geek or just dont want to mess with it get norton.

If you want to check out the article yourself it in PC World…January 2010 issue red cover.

What Internet Marketing Gurus Cannot Do

An internet marketing guru can be said to be an internet marketer who has paid his or her dues or has carved out a niche for him or herself in internet marketing; a person or marketer who has become an authority in internet marketing. An internet marketing guru is a person who has arrived in his chosen niche in internet marketing. You can also say that he or she has become a household name in the internet marketing community. Moreover, you can call him a “successful” internet marketer even though we all appreciate the fact that success is a relative term in such a way that everybody has his or her own unique definition of success.

In internet marketing, we have two categories of people: the internet marketing newbies and the internet marketing gurus. The newbies are those that are learners; they are the internet marketers that lack the necessary experience for online success.

The gurus are the veterans, coaches, and teachers. They seem to have gotten all the experience in the field of internet marketing. They seem to know the nitty-gritty of the business. They seem to know the whims and caprices, the pros and cons of the world of internet marketing.

What more can one really say about internet marketing gurus that have not been said. Suffice it to say that the gurus are the ones that have seemingly made it to the top and are still at the top because it’s one thing to get to the top but a different ball game entirely to stay at the top especially during the test of time.

The gurus virtually know all the tricks, tips, and tidbits on internet marketing. They can teach you how to succeed and how to fail in an online business venture. They can teach you how to become a millionaire “overnight” via internet marketing. They can take you by the hand as a mentor and take you to the top. They can teach you how to create good products and offer excellent services.

The gurus can teach you how to design your web site so as to attract visitors or prospective customers. They can offer you a ton of free products because they know how to create many of them (such products) without lifting any of their fingers. They can tell you how and why they succeeded. They can supply you with the list of all the books they read to receive inspiration or motivation.

Internet marketing gurus can teach you how to make something out of nothing. They can teach you how to improve or develop software. They can paint an excellent picture of your problem and show you the easiest way to come out of it.

But, wait a minute, there is just one thing that the internet marketing gurus cannot do. What is this one thing? They cannot allow you to take away their customers from them because they know that if you do take away their customers they will go bankrupt. Can you beat that?

Question How can a free internet security download like Avast work so good and be free?
Just like that old saying “if it sounds to good to be true then it’s because it is” That’s my only hold back in deciding on what internet security program to buy or use free.

The Best Answer Avast is a anti-virus software, it is not a full internet security program. It offers good protection. But it lacks some features that you get with a paid program. Still if you add a few things you can make a good internet security package on your computer. Get a good two way firewall, add WOT to your browser. Get Malwarebytes anti-malware. This will give you good internet security. But it not the same as having a good paid Internet Security program, which will cover all areas, and you only have to deal with one program.

Helping Educators Protect Children – Why Internet Monitoring is Needed

The number of children who use the Internet is soaring. Currently more than 30 million kids under the age of 18 use the Internet. That represents nearly half of the children living in the United States. 14 million children access the information highway from school, a figure that is expected to increase to 44 million by 2003. Also by that year, we believe more students will access the Internet from the classroom than from home according to the Consortium of School Networking.

Over the last decade, while the numbers of people who use the Internet grew, the Internet, and what it is used for, has changed as well. It is no longer a community of scientists and academics. Now, anyone can publish whatever he or she wants on a web site and have an instant worldwide audience. While the World Wide Web opens up a world of information, entertainment, and social interaction to kids, it also gives them access to some very unfriendly information. Today there are nearly 7 million pornography sites on the web and that number increases by the day. Children unwittingly plug an innocuous word into a search engine and not only does the information they seek pop up, but often, so do porn sites, and sites with topics devoted to bomb-making, weaponry, gambling, and drugs. Just like the World Wide Web, if we consider it an entity, does not know the ages of the people who surf it, inappropriate email does not know the age of its addressee, and it shows up in everyone’s email box. Worst of all, the Internet makes it possible for the worst sort of predator, the pedophile, to creep into our schools and homes.

Organizations ranging from schools and hospitals to churches and businesses now rely on the Internet for access to information. It also provides instantaneous access to vendors, suppliers, sales, customer service and more. But with the good, comes some bad. Along with all the vital information that flows across the web, there is also content that is at best inappropriate and at worst illegal. Educators who fail to protect their students from some of this easily obtainable material face a host of problems, including legal liability (last year employees at a public library in Minneapolis filed suit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) saying that exposure to porn due to patron surfing constituted a hostile work environment) negative publicity, wasted money due to nonproductive use of equipment (excess lines, routers, disk storage and printers, unreliable or slow connections, etc.), and, of course, the human costs, which are incalculable.

Our children are our most precious and vulnerable citizens and they are at risk. But the risk is nott necessarily where we as parents and educators think it is. Law enforcement officers who deal with the growing problem of cyber crime report that web content is one problem, but major criminal activity is taking place in chat rooms, instant messaging applications, and in email. These modes of communication have given predators or pedophiles access to online playgrounds where they find children to virtually, and potentially literally, molest. The Internet has provided these criminals with a means of communicating with millions of children. The fact that they have anonymity means that they are free to pose as anyone they want to.

The problem is larger than we think. Consider that one Midwestern city with a population of 190,000 has 270 registered sex offenders. This is one small city. When a cyber crime enforcement agent in that city recently logged into a chat room posing as a 13-year-old girl, he had ten men wanting to talk sexually with her within 5 minutes!

I. An Overview of the Children’s Internet Protection Act

The Children’s Internet Protection Act was signed into law in December of 2000. The law became effective in April of last year. CIPA mandates the use of blocking, filtering or monitoring technology on computers in public libraries and schools receiving E-rate telecomm discounts or Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) or Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) funds to filter harmful to minors material. The law has not been universally praised. Organizations ranging from the American Civil Liberties Union to the American Library Association (ALA) have filed suits with the goal of overturning the law.

The ALA believes the legislation is unconstitutional because it limits access to constitutionally protected information that is available on the Internet at public libraries. The bill, introduced by Senator John McCain, the republican from Arizona, requires libraries to adopt acceptable use policies accompanied by technology that would block access to material harmful to minors.

This is obviously a very controversial issue. At one recent hearing about the Child Online Protection Act (COPA), a hearing that took place in California, one ALA representative testified that ALA members routinely review books and other material, including videos, music and magazines in order to determine which material is appropriate for their readers. They essentially filter material before it is placed on library shelves. And if it is deemed inappropriate, they block it. At this hearing, a COPA commissioner asked why the ALA does not want to do the same thing for information on the Internet. The only reply from the ALA representative: the information is different. Different is certainly one way to see it!

My question for you is: why should information that is available on the Internet be subject to less strict control than books or magazines or music or video? The material that is published on paper, whether in books or magazines or appears in video form, is scrutinized very carefully, and federal and state laws mandate that minors be prevented from obtaining some of this material. Why should information on the Internet be treated any differently? Why should we allow our children access to such material because it is different? We are not talking about book burning; we are simply questioning the controls in place for this new and easily accessible information source.

I believe that CIPA, COPA and COPPA, along with all the other acts proposed, or those that are already law, have not gone far enough. Our children are not adequately protected. And it is our job to address the issues that affect our children. We have a moral obligation to our future generations to protect them. In our society children mature sooner because of the myriad of instant communications available, unmonitored communication has contributed to the loss of innocence. We must protect our children, and not give the only voice on this subject to those who believe the right to free speech is more important than safety.

II. A Look at the History of Content Controls

In the mid-1990s, reports of the negative experiences that children were having on the Internet began to make headlines. At the 1994 Fall Comdex meeting, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Interactive Services Association issued Child Safety on the Information Highway, the first statement suggesting that parents should monitor their childrren internet activities. As any parent knows, Do’s and Don’ts lists simply do not work. Kids are curious, and whether intentionally or accidentally, will find their way to inappropriate material. If we also consider that an estimated 5 million new or renamed websites are put up every week, it’s easy to understand why it seems impossible to protect ourselves and our children from potentially destructive material. Another approach, limiting access by rating internet content thereby preventing children from accessing harmful content the way that movie theaters prevent children under age 17 from buying tickets to R rated movies has been ineffectual. Only about 150,000 websites, out of the hundreds of millions of web sites, have registered to rate themselves.

Several years ago, in response to concerns from the public, from parents, from educators, and from law-enforcement officers, congress and advocacy groups began to look for ways that the government could control children access to harmful material, a movement that culminated in the Communications Decency Act, an amendment to the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

At the same time that the ratings debate waged, companies began to develop filtering and monitoring software products. In 1996 there were just a few; by 1997 there were about 3 dozen and last year, there were more than 100 on the market. There are a variety of products available. Most rely on lists of URLs and then block access to sites that appear to contain pornographic material. If a user attempts to go to such a site, the user receives a message stating that access to this specific site is prohibited. Other applications filter the information on the Internet and look for keywords that indicate the site may contain material that is inappropriate for children. Essentially, the URL blocker blocks the entire site while the filter allows access to the site, but filters out the information that is inappropriate. Opponents say that these approaches overblock content, filtering out references to breast cancer, and to researchers who hold magna cum laude honors, and so on.

Most recently, several products that monitor user activities have been offered to the public. These applications do not block or filter, but rather promote the organization Acceptable Use Policy and monitor the computer user activities. If the user violates the organization Acceptable Use Policy by accessing pornographic or other inappropriate material, the systems administrator or other assigned person is notified. This approach is becoming increasingly popular because when an organization posts its Acceptable Use Policy, and its users know their computer use is being monitored, it puts the responsibility back in the user hands. In other words, if a user knows the Acceptable Use Policy, and he or she chooses to violate the policy, then presumably he or she is willing to suffer the consequences.

III. The Consortium for School Networking

In order to help schools understand the far-reaching on-line safety issues and comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act, the Consortium for School Networking is providing updated resources related to Internet safety. At http://www.safewiredschools.org, school leaders and parents can find a downloadable PowerPoint presentation on factors they must consider for Internet protection. There is also a detailed compliance guide covering all of the requirements of CIPA legislation.

According to the CoSN, when a school decides to manage or monitor the content that their students can access via the Internet, they will need to consider a variety of issues. Among them: Local community and international standards, for the www is an international entity that knows no boundaries, the culture of the school district, the degrees of control that teachers and administrators want to retain, the extent to which teachers and other officials wish to be involved on an ongoing basis, and cost. School administrators will also have to decide whether rules will vary according to children’s ages.

Among the approaches that the CoSN outlines in its briefing:

1. Acceptable Use Policies. Whether or not a school ultimately decides to use a filtering, monitoring or blocking application, it should still have an Acceptable Use Policy which children are aware of before they go online. The National Center for Educational Statistics reported in May of 2001 that 98 percent of schools with Internet access had an Acceptable Use Policy in place. Typically a student and his or her parents will be asked to sign off on the policy at the beginning of the school year. The policy should spell out the consequences a student (or staff member) will face if the policy is violated.

2. Monitoring. School districts may opt to take the approach in which they gives students unlimited access, but monitor the sites that individual students (and staff) have accessed. This gives an administrator the opportunity to respond to a student/staff member who is spending too much time on sites that are obviously not school-related.

3. Blocking/Filtering. Filtering means allowing access to a restricted number of web sites. Access is either limited to a specific list of approved sites, or access is blocks to sites that are considered off limits. Someone ultimately has to decide which sites will be included on the list. Some teachers and school officials may want to retain complete control over that, but others will opt to have a third party manage the process for them.

4. Proxy Servers. Some school districts decide to install filtering software on the district proxy server. It can also be used as a firewall, providing protection from viruses as well as access by hackers and other outsiders.

5. Application Service Providers. This is a relatively new option, whereby a school district hires a company to manage the school’s computer applications from the company’s own servers.

6. Filtered Internet Access. Many Internet service providers that market to schools and families have adopted content controls of their own. Users can then decide whether or not to use the controls.

7. Portals and Search Engines. There are a growing number of search engines and portals aimed at the education market. In some cases the school can configure their system to go straight to that portal or search engine. Administrators will need to carefully consider how restrictive these portals actually are, and whether they allow children to access inappropriate sites though back door methods.

8. Green spaces. Proprietary networks or Intranets designed for children are sometimes referred to as green spaces. They are designed to create closed spaces where children can roam freely among content that has been deemed appropriate for them. Generally speaking, they provide access to a relatively small number of sites.

IV. The Problems Posed by the Internet Today

As is the Internet itself, the tools and solutions we have at our disposal for managing and monitoring content are constantly evolving. Sadly, so are the methods of Internet users and the abusers who prey on children. Blocking and filtering have historically offered adequate protection for our children, but that is no longer reality.

Access to inappropriate information on the Internet is now roughly 25% of the problem. The other 75% of the problem is the material that arrives via chat rooms, instant messaging, email and attachments. Adults whose objective is to do harm to unsuspecting children know that they can find them by way of these seemingly innocuous methods. Predators use email and attachments, instant messaging, and chats to obtain personal information, to send sexually harassing and hate documents; they even use applications such as Word or Notepad to write and send such material. Children unwittingly transport this information via floppy disks and CDs that can be viewed in the classroom. Or they develop personal web sites at home, sites that contain explicit or disallowed material that can be accessed from school. These new problems demand new solutions that can address the full spectrum of problems.

V. What the Future Holds: Filtering, Blocking and Monitoring Tools Available to Educators and Parents Today

As technology changes so must our concepts of the problems created by such changes. The World Wide Web is growing exponentially and is a resource that gives any user access to ANY information, and provides the opportunity for any user to communicate with anyone, anywhere, anytime. Regardless of who is checking or how they are checking content, the main problem still exists. The Internet is an instant visual communication tool that has a dark underbelly. Teachers and parents must be made aware of all the dangers, not just those which exist with web content but that which is present in the chat rooms, instant messaging, e-mail, attachments and applications. We need the tools that will allow us to prevent people with evil intent from gaining access to our children and doing them harm.

European schools are heavily invested in technologies to monitor internet activity including Policy Central from Security Software Solutions. A number of school districts in the United States are now monitoring internet activity rather than simple site blocking. (Watch it in HD!) Are you aware you are being phished? That you may have recieved an imitation email or that you could be lured into a fake website? Billions of dollars are stolen every year through a deceptive tacktic called “Phishing.” A “phisher” sets up a look-alike website (of a bank, for example) and sends out legitimate looking emails to lure in victims. They then use these to trick the user into giving up sensative information. Always be carefull to check you are on the REAL website of any bank, store, or other important site. Always be wary of imitation emails asking for personal information. And never give out personal information if you are unsure about who you are giving it to. By taking care to check where you are online and who is actually contacting you in email, you can help eliminate the risk of falling victim to a phishing attack.
Yahoo Answers For Internet Security

Question Internet security?
which is the best internet security? i used to use kaspersky internet security. it was good. but i wanna change it.

The Best Answer Not sure there is a best–for all systems, all times, and all users.

Also, I am not a fan of all-in-one security packages.

You need a firewall, an antivirus program, and spyware protection (detection and removal at least; some provide real-time protection as well).

You can research alternatives at download.com. For each type, rank search results there by Cnet editors’ ratings and read their reviews for their best choices; also rank search results by users’ reviews, because editors don’t review everything. (To sort search results there, just click on the corresponding column head.)

Question Internet Security?
What do you need to do to get into internet security. Like tracking child predators online?

The Best Answer I just started a Masters program with Virginia College online for Cybersecurity. It’s been a tough course for me but definitely worth looking into.

Question internet security?
Does anyone know about internet security suite 2007? i got this free when I purchased my computer 3 months ago.My Norton antivirus has just expired so i wanted to know it the software I just mentioned above is any good.
Thanks

The Best Answer There are many programs under this name in the market like Norton internet security suit,
eTrust internet security suit,,
Panda internet security suit,
ZoneAlarm internet security suit,
McAfee and many others.

I recommend using McAfee internet security suit while you have other alternatives but it’s better to have the antivirus, firewall, spamkiller and antispyware come from the same vendor.

The most important fators regarding security suits are the included antivirus and firewall and from my experience I vote for McAfee and Kaspersky. Norton, Panda and AVG “free edition” in the school’s computer lab failed to detect a virus spreads via flash memory called “generic downloader”, while kaspersky succeeded to neautralize it on an infected system.

Just make sure to keep your security suit updated regularly.

How to Ecommerce

Ecommerce is becoming one of the primary ways for companies to do business because so many are home based or don’t carry any items directly. Ecommerce makes it possible for people to sell stock without having it in their possession–they simply take orders and have the items shipped from manufacturers or warehouses. However, this wide availability of products makes it even more important for the online business to be a targeted ecommerce website.

Targeted ecommerce is a matter of carrying the right products or services, and all of them possible, for exactly the right kind of client or customer. It also involves making sure your website revolves around that customer and that your content and art work appeals to them. Otherwise they will simply click off and go elsewhere.

For instance, let’s say you are building a website that sells children’s clothing. If you have children yourself, you know how difficult it can be to find clothes for the occasional child who is overweight. If you specialize in that kind of clothing, you are finding a specialized niche. Niches are critical to targeted ecommerce.

Another important aspect of targeted ecommerce is keeping in touch with your customers. Going back to the clothing site for overweight children, perhaps there is a new line coming out that many parents would be interested in and you want to carry it. Send a survey and make them feel part of the progress of your business–this will help develop loyalty. Then notify them when you begin carrying the line of clothing and you will see your sales jump.

Security, Malware, And Your Computer

Computers are practically in every aspect of our lives these days and our reliance on them is heavy. They are used as tools for work, data storage, schoolwork, shopping, and entertainment. Because so much information is typically stored on our computers we must always make sure they are protected from that loss of information. Businesses have to secure information on their computers to protect it from exploitation by hackers. And the home computer user is no exception to the requirement to protect computer information because there can be credit card numbers, social security numbers, and other sensitive personal information stored on their computer or transmitted when doing online shopping. There is a term used for this and it is “computer security risk.” This term refers to the likelihood that some action could cause the loss of information, computer hardware, or denial of service.

When computer security is put at risk intentionally, it becomes criminal in nature or we call this a computer crime. Another relative of the computer crime is the cybercrime. The FBI pays especially close attention to cybercrimes and there are other types of crimes related to them such as corporate spying, unethical computer activity, cyberterrorism, hacking, cracking, and cyberextortion.

Hacking at one time had a positive meaning to it but since computer crimes were introduced, it falls in the bucket with the rest of them. The hacker is the person who gains access to a computer network illegally. They sometimes use the excuse that they were only trying to break a network’s security so as to make the administrator aware of any security deficiencies.

Closely related to the hacker is the cracker. But the cracker never has been viewed in a positive light. The cracker always has had the intent to gain access to computer and its network to do harm to it or commit a crime like stealing information stored on it. The cracker, like the hacker, has to know what he or she is doing so advanced computer skills are needed in order to pull these crimes off.

Then there are the cyberterrorists and cyberextortionists. The cyberterrorist has a political motive behind his or her activities and it is to do harm to computers to adversely affect a political system. Cyberterrorism requires extensive planning, skilled people to carry it out, and money to fund it. It is much like the classic terrorist attack.

The cyberextortionist is the one who commits the crime of extortion via email. They will hold a company hostage by threatening to release sensitive company information or harm a company’s computers and network if not given some confidential information and/or money. Sometimes these criminals are aware of security leaks that will allow them to exploit the computer. It is much like classic extortion except carried out through computers.

Then there is the employee who wants to get revenge on his or her company because of some perceived wrong done to them or they want to pad their pockets. These people are known as the unethical employees and what makes them so dangerous is that they many times know how to get into the system.

Not everyone has the computer skills required to be a cracker or hacker so there is another classification known as the “script kiddie.” This person is usually is a teenager attempts to harm a computer system but cannot do much because he or she does not know much. This person will use canned programs and scripts to attempt to do the hacks and cracks.

Some unethical businesses try to gain an unfair advantage on their competition through an illegal activity known as corporate espionage. The same unethical businesses will hire a corporate spy who is highly-proficient in computers and technology to break into the target corporation’s computers. The corporate spy will then steal information or even sabotage the target computer.

It is imperative that home and business computer users take action to shield their computer from these threats to their security. Computer security methods are not 100% foolproof but they do decrease the risk to computers significantly. As soon as a solution is found to protect against one threat, someone figures out a new way to gain unauthorized access to them. Computer users on home networks are more at risk to have information stolen than are computers on business networks mostly because of the more advanced security on the latter. And the internet is a network even more susceptible and at risk when it comes to security. Another problem with security on the internet is that there is not one centralized point to manage security and safety on the information highway.

You are probably wondering now if your computer is secure from threats such as these. There are ways you can get your system evaluated. You can find sites on the internet that offer services that will access your computer and report to you any security vulnerabilities found either through internet browsing or the e-mail. These same companies many times offer tips and suggestions of ways to protect against the vulnerabilities. Another resource in the fight against computer security threat is the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Coordination Center which also offers suggestions.

Security attacks against computers usually involve things like worms, viruses, denial of service, Trojan horses, and spoofing. All of these, the computer virus is the most famous. A computer virus is basically software that is designed to do damage to the files on your computer once it gets installed on it. All if it is done without the user giving permission and without the user’s knowledge at first. A computer virus, once it gets in your computer, will spread and cause more damage. It will do things like delete files and corrupt your computer’s operating system and render it inoperable. Thus it was tagged with the term “virus” because it acts much the same way as human virus does: it gets in and spreads throughout the body and causes illness or damage in some cases. Protection against viruses is available through anti-virus software.

An offshoot of the computer virus is the computer worm. A computer worm is much like a virus with the exception that it will find some perfectly valid executable program on your computer and attach itself to that program. When the user runs the program, the computer worm will attack. Computer worms can consume a lot of network bandwidth while they replicate across a corporate network.

And now for the famous Trojan horse computer threat that derives its name from the famous story in Greek mythology. What a Trojan horse does is hide itself in a program that looks like a valid program but in reality it is not. Trojan horse programs do not replicate like the viruses and worms do.

All these different types of threat software are known as malware which is term used to refer to malicious-logic programs. Malware, as the name implies, does damage to your computer. There are other variations of worms, viruses, and Trojan horses but we are just discussing these three for this article. And you should know how to suspect you have been attacked by one or more these malicious programs. You should be suspicious that you have been attacked if your computer shows one or more of these signs:

Programs you use suddenly don’t work like they used to:

Files are missing or corrupted

Strange music or sounds are heard on your computer

You start running out of memory for no apparent reason

Strange files show up on your system

System properties begin to change

Popup windows with odd messages and/or images display

The ways in which these malicious programs do their damage or drop their “bombs” can be one any one of the following:

A user runs a program infected with the virus. This is why virus scanning software that checks a program before running it is so important.

A user boots a computer and the virus is installed on the boot sector. It is recommended that you remove all media files when you shut down your computer.

A user connects to a computer that is not protected against viruses on the network (such as accessing a shared drive). So the user opens a virus-infected file on a shared drive and now the user’s client computer has the virus.

A user opens up an email attachment that contains an executable file with a virus. This is why it is so important to not open up executable email attachments unless you know the sender and the attachment has been scanned by anti-virus software.

And another big problem with malicious logic programs is that new ways to implement them are discovered every day. Security websites try to stay on top of each new malware implementation so that users can be alert for them. Take basic safety measures to protect your computer such as installing a good anti-virus package that gets updated with new malware detection logic automatically. Never open up suspicious email attachments. Be careful of the internet sites you visit (i.e., don’t visit Warez sites), and run anti-spyware programs. Take the media out of any alternate boot devices you have so that a virus cannot get stored on it and be introduced at boot time. Finally, stay informed from security websites as to the latest threats and what to look out for.

Understanding How Firewalls Protect Your Computer

Not many of us intentionally leave our cars unlocked or the front of our homes open to strangers.
But we often leave our computers wide open to anyone and everyone that may want to snoop.

To get and keep our computers safe from hackers,or anyone wanting to have a look in our
computers,we need the aid and assistance of something commonly called Firewalls.

A Firewall can be hardware or software that acts as a gatekeeper to your computer. It does this
by monitoring all internet traffic coming in and going out of our computers.

They not only allow the passage of this traffic but inspects all, making sure it is safe and do not
contain viruses, any spyware,or other malicious software.

Firewalls control internet traffic in two methods,Packet filtering and stateful inspection.A Packet is
a chunk of data and it contains the address of the computer it comes from and a destination address.

Ok,so you’re wondering what on earth is an IP Address.Well,it is an identifier for your computer
device. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers
separated by periods.
If the Firewall recognizes the Packet and its IP Address,or its Internet Protocol Address,it allows the
Packet to pass.
The Stateful Inspection method look at the some data in the Packet and compares key chunks of
data to a large area that contains known, trusted information.

to see if it is safe or if your computer is expecting the data.It also allow safe passage of data if all
seems well. The Stateful Inspection method is preferred since it checks the data that have passed
through your computer before.
What About Those Hardware Firewalls
Hardware Firewalls are devices that are designed to run software Firewalls. So why are there hardware
firewalls, you ask.One big advantage of having a Hardware Firewall is that the computer don’t have to
do any work.
The hardware running the software does all work, thereby leaving the CPU in the computer free to get
on with other tasks. The CPU,or Central Processing Unit should be free as much as possible to
keep the computer running at peak performance.

Explaining The Software Firewalls

There are many creative ways that people use to access or abuse your computer when its not protected.
Someone is able to connect to your computer and control it in some form.
This can range from being able to view or access your files to actually running programs on your computer.
Some of the software Firewalls protect your computer from are the following.
Email Bombs.Someone sends you the same e-mail hundreds or thousands of times until your e-mail
system cannot accept any more messages. If you spend time on the internet often you will most likely
experience this.
Viruses. This is no doubt the most well known threat.A Virus is a small file which reproduces itself on
other computers.Viruses may be harmless to wiping your hard drive clean.
Firewalls may not protect you from all viruses. It would be worth your while to invest in good anti virus
software as added protection.Once you invest in a Firewall, study its owner’s manual to set it up.
Once the Firewall has been installed and setup complete, take a minute to be sure its working.Test the
Firewall by going online and visiting a security site.Go to [http://www.grc.com] and give their free Shields Up
security test a try.
If the Firewall pass, you will have the comfort of knowing your PC will have that added protection from
someone stealing your credit card information or any valuable information.
If you have not invested in a Firewall, won’t wait to give one a try.Your critical files and programs will be
much safer and you will have the knowledge of being able to install Firewalls on the PC
of your friends, enemies, and everyone else in between.
Keep your computer safe from hackers and other intruders by fully understanding how firewalls
operate in the background of your computer.

Yahoo Answers For Java Primitive Data Types

Question How can I print out the limit of Java primitive data type, e.g byte, short, int?
byte: The byte data type is an 8-bit signed two’s complement integer. It has a minimum value of -128 and a maximum value of 127

How to check that using a java class?

The Best Answer System.out.println(“Min byte value   = ” + Byte.MIN_VALUE);
System.out.println(“Max byte value   = ” + Byte.MAX_VALUE);
